Chinna Babu Review:
Chinna Babu is family drama set in village atmosphere. It’s a commercial potboiler with all masala ingredients. It has emotional drama with sister sentiment. Besides preaching family values, the film also motivates on youth picking up farming as a respectable profession.
First half is full of fun with romantic track and petty quarrels in family. Sometimes it appears as if watching a dubbing serial with those surprising twists and bangs. Second half is heavy on emotional drama. Chinna Babu also has hi-octane action episodes. Fights are entertaining with an interesting concept.
Though the film is highly Tamil flavoured, the emotional episodes connect. Some well scripted scenes keeps amusement intact till the end. Heavy sentimental climax are tear jerking as well.
Performances:
Karthi steals the show with his amazing performance as rustic villager. He is equally good at comedy and emotional scenes as well. Soori who played Karthi’s sidekick evokes comedy through his witty dialogues.
The film is full of not so popular lady casting that it gives a feel of TV serial. Sayyesha Saigal surprisingly suits the village belle role. Satyaraj is decent as headman. SP Balasubramaniam’s dubbing adds to the essence.
Technically:
The film is technically rich. Camera work needs special mention for capturing those rural beauty that it gives a craving to visit our villages at the earliest. Action choreography is terrific. The fights are setup on a funny concept that they doesn’t bore you. Backgrounds score is good but songs are not so impressive.
Bottom-line: Chinna Babu – Entertaining joint family serial
