Mersal, the commotion created by this film all over India is well known. Vijay’s uttering of dialogues criticizing GST is the reason for film. The controversy helped the film gain buzz and boosted its run at box-office. Makers claimed that Mersal collected 250 crore gross and also that it has beaten Baahubali 2 in certain areas in Tamil Nadu. Film’s Telugu version ‘Adhirindhi’ had a good opening. However, Mersal ended up with huge loss of nearly Rs 60 crores as per BJP leader SV Sekhar. Atlee is believed to have taken a remuneration of 13 crores which is pretty high. Atlee was paid only 3 crore for his previous film ‘Theri’. The leader suspected foul play by makers. K Vijayendra Prasad penned screenplay for this movie produced by Sri Thenandal Films.
