The Reserve Bank of India will shortly issue ₹ 100 denomination banknotes in the Mahatma Gandhi (New) Series. The new denomination has Motif of “RANI KI VAV” on the reverse, depicting the country’s cultural heritage. The base colour of the note is Lavender.
The new Rs 100 note will be slightly bigger than the Rs 10 note. Even if the new Rs 100 note introduced into the market, circulation of old Rs 100 note will not be withdrawn. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) could issue the new notes in August or September.
However, Banks will have to alter the ATM machines to fit the new Rs 100 notes as was the case with new 2000 and 500 notes introduced in 2017. The new 100 rupees note is expected to feature micro-security that will be visible only under ultraviolet light.
