The much-hyped film “Shaakuntalam,” directed by Gunasekhar, failed miserably at the box office despite its star-studded cast led by Samantha. The mythological epic was released in theaters worldwide last month, but it failed to impress the audience and turned out to be a disaster at the box office. As a result, the film is now preparing for release on OTT platforms.
Amazon Prime has acquired the streaming rights for “Shaakuntalam” in all languages, and it will be available for streaming from May 12th. It remains to be seen how the film will be received by audiences on the OTT platform. Although the movie had all the necessary elements to be an engaging romantic drama with a mythological backdrop, the ineffective narration and lack of emotion made it a dull experience, and the audience could not connect with the characters or the story.
Directed by Gunasekhar and produced by Neelima Guna and Dil Raju under Sri Venkateswara Creations and Gunaa Team Works, respectively, “Shaakuntalam” was based on the internationally acclaimed Kalidasa’s Sanskrit play ‘Abhijnana Shaakuntalam.’ Dil Raju, who is also a well-known producer, recently expressed that the film’s failure was the biggest shock of his 25-year career.
In addition to Samantha, the film also starred Dev Mohan as King Dushyant, and Allu Arjun’s daughter, Allu Arha, made an appearance as Prince Bharata. Aditi Balan, Prakash Raj, Gauthami, Madhu Bala, Sachin Khedekar, Mohan Babu, and Ananya Nagalla played crucial roles. The music for the film was composed by Mani Sharma.
