The controversy surrounding the trailer of ‘The Kerala Story’ has grown into a larger one. The trailer depicted the protagonist, played by Adah Sharma, coming from a Hindu family and being coerced into converting to Islam by a classmate. The trailer claimed to be based on the true story of 32,000 women missing from Kerala.
However, the movie producers received severe criticism for misrepresenting facts, leading to a change in the description of the movie. The new description claims to be based on the true stories of three young girls from different parts of Kerala.
This change came after the Union Home Ministry reported that only 62 young people from India had joined ISIS since 2014. Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, who raised concerns about the controversial claims made by ‘The Kerala Story,’ has now withdrawn his case, as the filmmakers have updated the movie’s description.
Despite this change, the teaser released in November 2022 still states that the movie is about “heartbreaking and gut-wrenching stories of 32,000 females in Kerala.” It remains to be seen if ‘The Kerala Story’ will be released as planned, or if it will face tough censorship issues.
