Atlee, the leading star director in Tamil made his debut with “Raja Rani”, and rose to fame in no time. He scored super hits like “Theri”, “Mersal”, and “Bigil” with Tamil superstar Vijay. Atlee ventured into Bollywood ‘Jawan’ starring Shahrukh Khan and the movie is receiving positive reviews and seems an impending blockbuster.
However, some netizens are speculating about the source of Atlee’s inspiration for “Jawan” and have taken to trolling him. It has come to light that the story of “Jawan” bears similarities to a Tamil film. In “Jawan,” SRK portrays both a father and son, with the son working as a jailer who takes on anti-social elements. The entire story revolves around the father’s efforts to assist his son.
Several netizens have pointed out that the original version of Atlee’s “Jawan” seems to be a copy of the 1989 movie “Thai Nadu” which featured Sathyaraj in multiple roles. Netizens are alleging that Atlee essentially copied and pasted the narrative and script from this film, titled “Thai Nadu.” Additionally, the flashback scenes in “Jawan” have faced criticism for resembling those from Vijayakanth’s “Ramana.”
On the flip side, some netizens are coming to Atlee’s defense, asserting that he is a cut above other Tamil directors like Lokesh Kanagaraj and AR Murugadoss. Some viewers of “Jawan” have commented that Atlee cleverly incorporated elements from his previous films, including slow-motion sequences, CGI effects, and flashbacks, creating a narrative that is challenging to pinpoint in terms of its original source.
Atlee began his career as an assistant to the renowned South Indian director Shankar, and several of his films, from “Raja Rani” to “Bigil,” have faced allegations of plot plagiarism.
Despite the controversy, “Jawan,” the collaboration between Shah Rukh Khan and Atlee, has received a warm reception from fans. This commercial action film has garnered favorable reviews across India and earned a staggering Rs 75 crores on its first day at the box office.
