Was 2017 Lucky Enough For Dubbed Movies?

There was a time when Tamil dubbed movies use to have decent box-office collections. Telugu audience look up to Tamil movies for the different and realistic content. But now Times have changed, Tamil flicks have bitten dust one after another this year.
Suriya’s cop franchise thriller Singham 3 turned a average fare in February. Much hyped Cheli failed miserably despite coming from legendary director Maniratnam. Nayanthara’s horror thriller ‘Dora’ ended up a disaster. Dhanush’s VIP 2 is another flop from neighboring state. The year hasn’t been lucky to Tamil films. Even Vijay Antony of Bichagadu fame had to face failures in the form of Yaman and Indrasena. Sundeep Kishan’s Maanagaram got hugely acclaimed in Tamil but turned a damp squib in Telugu. Lawrence Raghava and Ritika Singh starrer horror thriller ‘Sivalinga’ also didn’t impress Telugu audience.
Aadi Pinnisetty’s Margathamani is another failure here while it got applause in Tamil. Vishal’s Detective (Thupparivalan) received appreciation from Telugu audience as well but piracy spilled waters on its box office dreams. Though Mersal received good openings due to nationwide rage over but didn’t do as much as expected at box-office. Distributors had to incur losses.
Tamil version of the film Thupparivalan has been a super hit. Karthi – Rakul Preet starrer realistic cop drama ‘Khakee’ also amassed good reports and had a decent run in theaters. Siddharth’s comeback with intriguing paranormal thriller ‘Gruham’ has been braced by audience.
